MILWAUKEE Bankruptcy filings are up 16 percent in Wisconsin during the first half of the year. U.S. Bankruptcy Court records show more than 16,000 petitions were filed through June. Bankruptcy and foreclosure lawyers arent getting a lot of rest these days. The down economy which has wreaked havoc on entrepreneurs, banks and real estate developers has spawned a big demand for attorneys in those practice areas.

Bankruptcy and foreclosure lawyers arent getting a lot of rest these days. The down economy which has wreaked havoc on entrepreneurs, banks and real estate developers has spawned a big demand for attorneys in those practice areas.

A US bankruptcy judge has decided that the cash-strapped Texas Rangers will be auctioned off, setting a date of Aug. 4 for the bidding.

The good news is the number of bankruptcy filings in New Hampshire continues to fall. The bad news is filings in June and for the year are still ahead of last year, when a record number of bankruptcies were filed. Some 443 individuals and businesses filed for bankruptcy protection in June about 20 more than last year. So far this year, there have been 3,341 filings.
